Joining the Smokefree SC team in May 2024, Deborah most recently served as the State Manager for The Balm in Gilead where she oversaw the implementation of Diabetes Prevention Programs throughout South Carolina. She has held multiple roles in a career with DHEC (DPH) and served a 5 year term on the Smokefree SC Board.

If you are uninsured and need assistance getting your prescription medications you may be able to have your prescriptions filled and delivered to your home at no cost to you through Welvista’s Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP). Healthcare professionals who have a strong interest in the field of tobacco or health or provide clinical care to people who use tobacco, including, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dentists, dental hygienists, dietitians, psychiatrists, psychologists, respiratory therapists, mental health professionals, addiction professionals, counselors, and social workers. These resources help support professionals to provide their patients/clients with effective evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence. Professionals that work in the field of health academics, policy, and education can also benefit from the up-to-date research/information.
Training and Certification for Providers, Counselors and Social Workers:
One highly recommended program includes the Nicotine Dependence Center Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Program at Mayo Clinic is nationally accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs. Completion of this virtual/online program will allow participants to pursue national certification.
